Selene Facial Steam from Earthwise Beauty has endless creative uses from brewing small amounts of the herbs for a preservative-free toner or mist that is good for two days, adding the strained or unstrained tea to a bath, and using the tea as an incredible hair rinse.

Steaming your face can help to heal the skin’s appearance and feel and can improve the skin's radiance and texture. And if you don’t have time for a full steam, you can try a facial compress with a designated soft facial towel. Regular steaming with Selene facial tea steam can boost hydration, radiance, and improve overall texture while helping the rest of your skincare routine delve deeper. Selene's special herb blend can reduce the appearance of acne and inflammation without stripping the skin while leaving it feeling cool, refreshed, and soothed.

  • KEY BIOACTIVES:
    • White yarrow flowers: Yarrow is a wonder herb, often a favorite among the plant-attuned and widely used by professional herbalists in North America and in Europe. The healing properties are strongly anti-inflammatory, acne reducing, analgesic (pain reducing, which comes in handy if one has painful breakouts), cooling, and refreshing. Yarrow has a special affinity for the skin (renowned American herbalists Matthew Wood and Michael Moore recommend yarrow for wrinkles, acne, psoriasis, and to speed healing of wounds) and as a vascular system regulator (yarrow's benefits in this area include the ability to stop bleeding, to improve the strength of capillaries, to make a reddened complexion appear less red by drawing blood away from the skin, and also the opposite, to improve coloring in very pale complexions).
    • Chrysanthemum flowers: Our chrysanthemum flowers come from Ava's relatives' countryside near Hangzhou in China. They were hand-picked specifically for use in our skin care line and purchased from the farm in person by our family members, then shipped to us in the United States. Chrysanthemum flowers are highly cooling and anti-inflammatory, with a delicate floral aroma. They are also used traditionally for firming the skin.
    • Green tea leaves: As with the chrysanthemum flowers, we use hand-selected, limited-supply, high-altitude green tea from the Hangzhou area countryside in China.
    • Comfrey: Western herbalists consider comfrey to be the best plant for tissue regeneration. Its healing properties make it ideal for soothing dry skin, as well as skin that is scarred or does not heal quickly. Comfrey and calendula are both especially effective healers for skin that is sensitive to topical products.
    • Calendula: One of herbalists' most-used flowers for skin concerns, from cold sores to acne to dry or thin skin, calendula offers unsurpassed skin-balancing properties. The flowers soften the skin, soothe dryness, and reinvigorate dull or tired-looking complexions.
    • Cornflowers: There is a surge of interest in cornflowers as a skin-enhancing herb, particularly for their cooling and anti-inflammatory properties. We gather most of the cornflowers in Selene from secluded meadows in Washington state.
    • Plantain leaves: The drawing properties of plantain leaves makes them an ideal herb for blackhead- and acne-prone skin types. They help to clarify the pores without any drying effects.
  • INGREDIENTS:
  • Achillea millefolium (white yarrow) flowers†, Chrysanthemum indicum flowers (organic whenever available), Centaurea cyanus (cornflowers)† or *, Calendula officinalis flowers (* or organic), Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaves, Symphytum officinale (comfrey) leaf (* or organic), Plantago major (plantain) leaves†.

    *Certified organic. †Responsibly wildcrafted.

Certified cruelty free, vegan, handcrafted, small batch. Gluten free.

  • HOW TO USE:
  • Place a generous handful of the herbs (4 to 5 tablespoons) in a heatproof nonreactive bowl (a stainless steel pot will allow the tea to remain hot longer than a ceramic bowl). Prepare a towel to cover your head during the steam session and wash your face, removing all makeup. Pour 1 to 2 cups freshly boiled water over the herbs to make a strong infusion. Lean over the bowl to caress your face with the pleasantly hot (not scorching) steam. Cover your head with a towel to allow as little of the heat to escape as possible. The hot steam will help open the skin's pores and the herbs will penetrate deeper to aid purifying, healing, and moisturizing. Steam your face for 15 to 30 minutes (a longer session is much more beneficial; reheat the tea if needed halfway through the session).

Follow with a face mask of your choice or a deep-acting serum, such as Ferns and Moss Face Serum. Strain the herbs and refrigerate the infusion for up to 2 days. Warm it and use as a face mist, facial compress, or hair rinse for all hair types, or add it to your bath. Store away from direct light exposure to protect the fragile botanicals within.
